After striking for nine days, nearly 4,000 student workers at the University of Oregon (UOSW-UAW) reached a tentative agreement and later ratified their first contract.

Their contract is a huge victory as the largest undergraduate public university student worker union in the United States and the first wall to wall union at a public university to reach a contract.

Through massive solidarity, UO student workers showed how essential they are to the university’s operations as they struck for better wages and working conditions.

UOSW’s first contract includes increased wages, with a base pay of $16 per hour, sick leave for work study, harassment protections, and emergency pay advances.

“This is a landmark moment in higher education labor history," Izzie Marshall, a UO student worker, said in a KLCC interview, “because it's setting the standard for what undergraduate student worker contracts at a public university will look like."

Congratulations to the UO Student Workers Union and the United Auto Workers on this historic win!
