If Congress does not act to pass an equitable and just budget by Oct 31, food assistance will end for 750,000 lower income Oregonians. Here are resources for Oregonian community members to stay fed until the federal government shut down ends.
Food Benefits That Are Not Affected:
If the federal shutdown continues beyond Oct. 31, the Trump administration will force the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) to delay issuing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
benefits.
However, funding for Oregon’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program will continue, and free and reduced price school meals will still be available.
You Can Still Count On:
ODHS will still be open for business, EBT cards with money on them will still work, and people can still apply for benefits.
When the shutdown ends, ODHS will work to distribute SNAP benefits and review applications as quickly as possible.
How to Prepare for SNAP Delays:
Check your Oregon Trail Card balances regularly.
Continue following SNAP rules and reporting requirements.
Sign-up for a ONE Online account and download the Oregon ONE Mobile app at benefits.oregon.gov to get notices about your SNAP case.
