Statement on Build Back Better passing the U.S. House

Statement from Oregon AFL-CIO President Graham Trainor on the passage of the Build Back Better agenda in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed one of the most transformational investment bills in our country’s history. This is a generational opportunity to make sweeping changes to our economy and to redefine the status quo so that it works for working people instead of a wealthy few. Millions of working people and families will soon be able to afford quality child and home care, early childhood education will be universal, and prescription drug costs will no longer force families to choose between medicine and groceries. On top of that, we have a pathway to a clean energy economy founded on union jobs, and long overdue improvements to our immigration system. It’s time for the U.S. Senate to pass this bill and finish the job. The combination of this bill with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework is what working people in our country need, and what we voted for in 2020, to recover from the pandemic and to build for a stronger, worker-centered future. The Oregon AFL-CIO is thankful to our members of the U.S. House of Representatives who voted yes on this critical bill, and especially to those who were with us from the very beginning and remained committed to building back better through the final vote on the floor of the U.S. House this morning.”
