In the United States, we know that the decision of whether or when to have a child has monumental implications for women's workforce participation, wage earnings, and job security. Unfortunately, today the U.S. Supreme Court essentially took away that choice by overturning Roe v. Wade. In doing so, they have fundamentally attacked working people across the country. Make no mistake, this is an assault on women, anyone who can become pregnant and this decision will have a disproportionate impact on communities of color. Oregon’s unions are proud to have passed a resolution declaring that reproductive rights are workers’ rights at our convention in March and we stand by that resolution: The U.S. Supreme Court is on the wrong side of history by voting to overturn Roe V. Wade.
Today, and every day, Oregon’s unions and the Oregon Labor Movement are united against this decision that puts the health, safety, and well-being of women and anyone who can become pregnant and the workers who serve them at great risk.
