Oregon AFL-CIO Endorses State Senator Shemia Fagan for Secretary of State

PORTLAND, ORE. - The Oregon AFL-CIO, the statewide federation of unions representing over 300,000 working Oregonians, voted to endorse State Senator Shemia Fagan for Oregon Secretary of State this morning. Oregon AFL-CIO President Graham Trainor explained why Oregon’s unions are standing behind Senator Fagan:

“State Senator Shemia Fagan has been a steadfast champion, not just an advocate, for workers’ rights during her career in our Legislature. We were proud to present her with the Oregon AFL-CIO’s Working Families Champion award at our 2019 Convention as a way to recognize her hard work and commitment to the working people of our state. Today, we could not be more proud to announce our endorsement for Senator Fagan’s campaign for Oregon Secretary of State. We look forward to educating Oregon’s union members and all workers about her qualifications for office and her track record of supporting working families in the months ahead.”

The vote to endorse Sen. Fagan was held during the Oregon AFL-CIO’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) Board meeting. The COPE Board, made up of every individual union within the Federation, made a round of Congressional, Statewide, and Legislative endorsements as well today which will be announced early next week after all candidates have been notified of their endorsement.
