Four Unions on Strike in Oregon & SW Washington

The Hot Labor Summer of 2023 has shifted into a new season of solidarity as temperatures grow colder and more workers stand up and speak out for dignity, respect, and fair contracts in the workplace.

Beginning Wednesday October 4th, four different unions will have active picket lines in Oregon and SW Washington: UAW members at Chrysler, UFCW Local 555 and SEIU Local 49 members at Kaiser Permanente, and Operating Engineers Local 701 members at Republic Services.

Picketing will happen throughout the day at locations across the Portland Metropolitan Area, Vancouver, Salem, and the Corvallis area.

Here’s a map of who is picketing where and when:

UAW members at the Chrysler Parts Distribution Center in Beaverton, alongside UAW locals around the country representing workers at the Big 3 automakers, have been on strike since September 22nd and will continue to hold the line until a fair contract is reached. They are picketing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Click here for directions to the picket line in Beaverton.

IUOE Local 701 members have been on strike at Republic Services in Corvallis for a first contract since September 11th, 2023. They are picketing outside of the Coffin Butte landfill outside of Corvallis from 5:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, click here for directions to the picket line.

UFCW Local 555 members began an Unfair Labor Practices strike at Kaiser pharmacies on October 1st and will continue to picket until October 21st. They are picketing at the following locations daily beginning at 6:00am and ending at 7:00pm:

  • Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center Campus (map)

  • Kaiser Westside Medical Center Campus (map)

  • Kaiser Regional Lab in NE Portland (map)

  • Kaiser Airport Way Center in NE Portland (map)

SEIU Local 49 members will walk out tomorrow (10/4) starting a three day Unfair Labor Practice strike against Kaiser in Portland, Salem, and Vancouver. They are picketing at the following locations and times from Wednesday October 4th through Friday, October 6th:

  • Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center Campus, 7:00am - 7:00pm (map)

  • Kaiser Westside Medical Center Campus, 7:00am - 7:00pm (map)

  • Kaiser North Lancaster in Salem, 8:00am - 5:00pm (map)

  • Kaiser Cascade Park in Vancouver, 8:00am - 5:00pm (map)

It’s up to the Oregon Labor Movement to stand behind these brave workers during their strikes and keep fighting side by side until all have settled fair contracts with their employers. When we fight together, we win together and there is nothing more powerful than seeing working people support each other on picket lines. We’ll see you out there!
